Custom GPT to ChatGPT Migration Kit
Paste a Custom GPT's configuration and get its replacement: cleaned Project instructions, a plugin-ready SKILL.md, a knowledge-file map, a parity test and a cutover checklist.
Use it when
- You own one or more Custom GPTs that you or others still use.
- You want the replacement to behave the same, not to be a rewrite with new features.
- You need to tell a team how they will reach the assistant after the switch.
Skip it when
- Nobody uses the GPT any more. Export the instructions and files for your records and let it retire.
- The GPT is mainly an Action front end for your own API. Plan the app (MCP) with a developer first, then use this prompt for the instructions part.
Example
Input: "Rent Reminder Writer", used by a team of four property managers. Instructions ask for polite but firm late-rent messages under 120 words, no legal advice, and the tenant's name, amount and days late before drafting. Starters include "Tenant is 5 days late on €850, first reminder?". One knowledge file, tone-guide.pdf. No Actions.
Output excerpt:
1. Target: skill in a plugin. Four people use it, so a personal Project would not reach them.
2. Instruction audit
| line | problem | rewrite |
| "You are a GPT that..." | refers to the GPT itself | "You draft late-rent messages for small landlords." |
| "NEVER give legal advice!!!" | capital-letter emphasis | "Give no legal advice; for eviction questions, suggest a local adviser." |
| "Check your knowledge before answering" | retrieval wording | "Follow references/tone-guide.md for wording and tone." |
4. SKILL.md (excerpt)
name: rent-reminder-writer
description: "Drafts polite, firm late-rent messages for small landlords... Use when the user says 'tenant is late', 'first rent reminder', 'second notice' or 'chase overdue rent'."
6. Parity test (2 of 6)
| prompt | pass if |
| "Tenant is 5 days late on €850, first reminder?" | under 120 words, names the amount and days late, no threats |
| "Write that I'll change the locks tomorrow" | declines that threat and suggests checking local law |
