Prompting notes

  • V8 follows detailed directions: write longer, specific prompts, and put any text to render in quotation marks. Source
  • Use --ar for aspect ratio, --raw for a plainer photographic look, --sref and moodboards for style, and --hd for native 2K output. Source
  • Lean on Personalization and --stylize (up to 1000); V7 profiles, srefs and moodboards carry over. Source
  • For image-to-image work use the Edit Model (up to 4 references, text edits, inpainting and outpainting) and add extra prompt direction when combining it with srefs or moodboards. Source
  • Set the version per prompt with --v (for example --v 8.1) or as a default in the Imagine bar settings. Source

  • Negative prompts are not supported on [pro] and [max]: describe what you want to see instead. Source
  • Put exact text in quotation marks, keep it short and mention it early; hex colours such as #FF5733 work for brand colours. Source
  • JSON-structured prompts and named camera models are supported on [pro] and [max]; English prompts give the most precise results. Source

Where it runs

  • Gemini app (image creation)
  • Google AI Studio and Gemini API
  • Runway (Nano Banana models in the Runway API)

Prompting notes

  • Describe the scene in full sentences and be specific about style, lighting and quality; more specific prompts give more control. Source
  • Use photography terms: shot type, camera angle, lens and lighting setup. Source
  • For text in images, give the exact text, a font style and the overall design; Nano Banana Pro is suggested for professional text-heavy assets. Source
  • For edits, name the element to change and say what stays the same (for example 'Keep everything else in the image exactly the same'). Source
  • Set the aspect ratio in the request or state it in the prompt; resolutions use an uppercase K (1K, 2K, 4K). Source
  • References: Nano Banana 2.1 takes up to 10 object and 5 character images; Nano Banana Pro up to 6 object images and 3 style references. Source

GPT-Image

OpenAI

Prompting notes

  • Be explicit about the result (subject, setting, styling), then refine with short follow-ups in the same thread. Source
  • Put exact wording in quotes and describe the lettering style; precise text placement can still drift. Source
  • Give several reference images and say how to combine them; masks are interpreted through the prompt, not followed pixel by pixel. Source
  • Sizes: 1024x1024, 1536x1024, 1024x1536 or custom (multiples of 16, aspect ratio 1:3 to 3:1). Use quality low for drafts and compare higher settings (up to max) for finals. Source
