API Integration Kits

Writes Bolt prompts that connect AI, email, maps or any other non-payment API with the key on the server, cost caps, failure handling and a test prompt.

Version 3Updated 15 Oct 2026

When to use

  • You are adding an AI API, email, maps, file storage or another REST API to a Bolt app.
  • An API key sits in client-side code, or you are not sure where it sits.
  • An integration works in the preview but fails on errors, slow responses, rate limits or real users.

When not to use

  • Payments, subscriptions or paywalls: use bolt-payment-walkthrough.
  • The app has no backend and you do not want one. Most of these APIs cannot be called safely from the browser alone; the skill says so and stops.
  • A throwaway script that only you will ever run: the full kit is more than you need.

Example

User: Bolt app on Supabase. Users should get an AI summary of each note, and a welcome email after sign-up.

Result (excerpt):

BACKEND: Supabase Edge Functions · DATABASE: Supabase Postgres
ENV VARIABLES
- AI_API_KEY: your AI provider's dashboard · server only
- EMAIL_API_KEY: your email provider's dashboard · server only

KIT 1: AI summary (costs money per call)
Prompt: "Add an Edge Function summarize-note. It takes a note id, refuses logged-out
callers, and answers 403 unless the caller owns the note. Notes longer than 8,000
characters get a friendly message and no AI call. Send the note with our own
instructions, ask for JSON {bullets: string[]}, and show plain text if parsing
fails. Allow 20 summaries per user per day. Give up after 30 seconds; retry once
on a rate limit or server error. Display the bullets as text only."
Check yourself: search the deployed site's JavaScript for the first characters of
your key (no match expected); while logged in, request a note id that belongs to
a second account.
Look up: the AI provider's current rate limits and price per call.

Illustrative example; your output will differ.
