Database Schema Whisperer
Designs a Lovable app's tables, constraints and row level security rules before the pages exist, with a migration template and a two-user test plan.
When to use
- Before the first page prompt of an app that stores user data.
- You are unsure which tables, relationships and permissions you need.
- Requirements changed mid-build and you need to change tables without losing data.
- One user can see or change another user's data.
When not to use
- A static site or an app that stores nothing.
- Health, finance or other regulated systems: use this only as a first draft for a professional database and security review.
- The project does not use Postgres with row level security: the table design still applies, but the permission section has to be rewritten for your database.
Example
User: Recipe app. Users keep private recipes, can share one through a public link, and group recipes into collections.
Result (excerpt):
TABLES
recipes: a user's recipe
- id: uuid primary key · user_id: uuid not null → users.id (on delete: cascade)
- title: text not null · ingredients: text not null · steps: text not null
- is_public: boolean default false · created_at, updated_at: timestamptz
collections: a user's named group of recipes
collection_recipes: collection_id, recipe_id, unique together
DATABASE RULES: a recipe appears once per collection (unique pair)
PERMISSIONS
recipes: read owner, or anyone when is_public · create, change, delete: owner only,
and a new or changed row keeps user_id = the signed-in user
collections and collection_recipes: owner only
TEST PLAN: as user A, create a private recipe; as user B, open its id: not found.
Make it public; logged out, open the share link: visible. As user B, try to add
A's recipe to B's own collection: refused.
Illustrative example; your output will differ.
