Selective Motion Playbook
Make only chosen parts of a still move in Runway Gen-4.5, with a stillness list that keeps faces and walls put and fixes for the usual failures.
When to use
- You want part of an image to move and the rest to stay still.
- You are making a cinemagraph, a "living painting" or a calm loop for a site or a social post.
- Your animated stills warp faces, drift as a whole, or the camera creeps when it should not.
When not to use
- The shot needs a camera move (push, pan, orbit): use Frame-to-Film Workflow.
- You want to change something in an existing video clip (a colour, a background): use Green-Screen Killer with Aleph 2.0.
- The still is a real, identifiable person you do not have the rights to animate.
Example
User: An oil-painting-style portrait of a woman by a window, candles on the sill, light curtains, a stormy sky outside. I want a living painting that loops.
Result (abbreviated): ZONES: sky - MOVE · candle flames - MOVE · curtain - MOVE (small) · woman's face and shoulders - STILL (one slow blink) · walls and window frame - STILL CAUSE: a cool draft through the window gap, from left to right. PROMPT: "Static camera, locked off. Storm clouds drift slowly from left to right beyond the glass. The candle flames lean and flicker in a light draft. The edge of the curtain stirs gently. She blinks once, slowly. The walls, window frame and her face otherwise stay completely still." Length: 5 s · Loop: crossfade the last half second into the first.
