Error-to-Fix Debug Loop
Turns a Bolt bug into a scoped debug prompt with a likely cause to confirm first, plus the follow-up prompts for every outcome.
When to use
- Bolt shows an error in the preview, the terminal or the browser console.
- A feature silently does the wrong thing.
- Fix attempts made it worse, or Bolt keeps changing files that already worked.
When not to use
- The problem is a missing feature, not a bug: write a feature request instead.
- The provider is down or your quota or billing ran out ("quota exceeded", "payment required" from an external API): fix that with the provider, not in code.
- Payment and webhook bugs: start with the Troubleshooting section of
bolt-payment-walkthrough.
Example
User: After adding a profile page, clicking Save shows "TypeError: Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'id')" in the console. Nothing saves. Login still works.
Result (excerpt):
FIRST ERROR: TypeError: Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'id')
· where: browser console · when: every click on Save at /profile
CHECK FIRST: the save handler reads the user before the session has loaded
· confirm by: wait five seconds after the page opens, then click Save
DEBUG PROMPT
"Error: TypeError: Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'id'), in the
browser console, on every click of Save at /profile. Expected: Save updates the
signed-in user's display name and bio in profiles and shows a success message.
Context: /profile was added in my last prompt; login and the dashboard still work.
Please check first whether the user object is still loading when Save runs.
Fix just this. Leave other files and all styling alone. Tell me the cause before
you edit anything, then name each file you touched and why."
RETEST: Save on /profile; then log out and in; open the dashboard
Illustrative example; your output will differ.
