Chronology Builder
Scattered documents in, one sourced timeline out, with conflicts, gaps and the deadlines that follow from the record.
When to use
- You are preparing for a dispute, complaint, insurance claim, HR case or legal consultation and need "what happened when".
- A project went wrong and the team needs a factual post-mortem timeline.
- You have a pile of emails, messages and reports about one matter and can't hold it all in your head.
When not to use
- You want a persuasive story for one side. This skill builds a neutral record; the argument comes later, often with a lawyer.
- There are only a handful of events with clear dates. A simple list is enough.
Example
User: Here are 14 emails, the contractor's invoice and my own notes about a kitchen renovation that finished 6 weeks late. I need a timeline before mediation.
Result (illustrative and abbreviated; your model's wording will differ; the example uses week numbers in place of real dates):
Timeline
| # | Date as written → normalised | Event | Source | Confidence | Conflicts with |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | "today" in the contract → Wk 1 Mon | Contract signed; completion "within 8 weeks" | D1 p.2 | Confirmed | — |
| 2 | "next Monday" (email sent Wk 6 Thu) → Wk 7 Mon (implied) | Contractor promises cabinet delivery | D6 | Single-source | D9 |
| 3 | Wk 7 Tue | Cabinets not delivered: your email "no cabinets yet"; contractor replies "supplier delayed" | D8, D10 | Corroborated | — |
| 4 | "Wk 8 Tue" on the invoice | Cabinets delivered | D9 line 3 | Single-source | D6 |
Conflicts
- Cabinet delivery: D6 promised Wk 7 Mon; invoice D9 records delivery on Wk 8 Tue → stronger for the actual date: D9, a record of the delivery; D6 is only a promise.
Gaps
- Wk 7 Wed to Wk 8 Mon: no messages. Missing: the supplier's delivery note. INFERENCE: work paused while waiting for the cabinets.
Deadlines from the record
- Completion due: signed Wk 1 Mon (D1) + 8 weeks = Wk 9 Mon. Completed Wk 15 (D14), 6 weeks late.
Open questions
- Is there a supplier delivery note for the cabinets? (contractor)
