Project Rules Writer
AGENTS.md, CLAUDE.md and Cursor rules written from the code that is actually in your repo, with evidence for every convention and commands that actually run.
When to use
- A repo has no agent rules, or only a generic template.
- Agents keep using the wrong package manager, test command, import style or folder.
- You use more than one agent and their rules files have drifted apart.
- You still have a legacy
.cursorrulesfile and want to move to the current formats.
When not to use
- An empty or brand-new repo. There are no patterns to extract yet; write five lines by hand.
- You want the multi-agent layout and starter skills, not convention rules. Use the AGENTS.md + Skills Starter skill.
Example
User (in Codex): "Write project rules for this repo. We use Codex and Cursor."
Result (excerpt):
EXISTING RULES: .cursorrules (legacy format, 212 lines): stack, style · AGENTS.md: none
COMMANDS
| test | pnpm vitest run | .github/workflows/ci.yml | ran: 214 passed |
| lint | pnpm lint | package.json | ran: 3 warnings |
| e2e | pnpm playwright test | ci.yml | not run: needs a browser and a seeded database |
CONVENTIONS (evidence)
- Imports use the ~ alias: src/server/routers/booking.ts:3
- Routers throw TRPCError with a code: src/server/routers/booking.ts:57
CONFLICTS - .cursorrules:14 says "use npm" but the lockfile and CI use pnpm → proposed: pnpm
- .cursorrules:88 bans default exports, but 31 files in src/app use them (route files need them) → proposed: ban them outside src/app
DRAFT: .cursor/rules/prisma.mdc
description: Rules for database schema and queries
globs: prisma/,src/server/db/
alwaysApply: false
- Change schema.prisma, then run pnpm prisma migrate dev; never edit prisma/migrations/ by hand.
