Test-First Autopilot
Your acceptance criteria become failing tests you approve first; the agent then implements until they pass, with no silent test edits.
When to use
- A feature with clear acceptance criteria, or criteria you can write in a few bullets.
- Logic where wrong results are costly: pricing, permissions, data transforms, date rules.
- You do not trust code that only looks right.
When not to use
- Exploratory prototypes where the requirements are still moving.
- Pure visual changes, where screenshot or visual review fits better.
Example
User: Coupon codes. A valid code gives 10% off the subtotal; an expired code is rejected with "This code has expired"; each user can use a code once. Jest, npm test.
Result (excerpt):
CRITERIA → TESTS
| valid code gives 10% off | applies 10% to subtotal; rounds to cents | lowercase code accepted |
| expired code rejected | rejects with "This code has expired" | code expiring today, at 23:59 and 00:00 (fixed clock) |
| one use per user | second use by same user rejected; other user allowed | two uses at once, only one succeeds |
