Whole-Book Notes
Reads a whole book and extracts the author's system for your goal: thesis, mechanisms, weak spots and five actions for this week.
When to use
- You have the full text of a non-fiction book (business, psychology, science, strategy, self-help) and want to apply it, not just remember it.
- You are deciding whether a book is worth reading in full.
- An author or editor wants a structural read of their own manuscript: is the argument carried by a few strong mechanisms, or by repetition?
When not to use
- You only have the title, not the text. Notes from memory of a book are unreliable; the skill asks for the text or says plainly that the notes come from general knowledge.
- Fiction or poetry, where mechanisms and playbooks don't fit.
Example
User: [uploads a 280-page book on habit formation] I manage a small support team and want better team routines.
Result (illustrative and abbreviated; your model's wording will differ):
Core thesis. Author: outcomes follow from small repeated behaviours shaped more by environment than by willpower. Must be true: you control the environment, and the behaviour gives feedback quickly enough to reinforce it.
Framework. cue design → friction adjustment → immediate reward → identity → lasting routine
Mechanism: friction adjustment (ch. 7). Make the desired action the easiest option. Evidence: workplace cases and two cited studies (ch. 7–8). Analysis: it breaks when a team's defaults are set by tools you don't control.
Gap. The book treats habits as individual. Team routines need agreement and shared cues, which ch. 11 should have covered.
This week. 1. Move the daily ticket review to straight after stand-up (cue design). 2. Put the reply templates one click from the ticket view (friction).
Verdict. The notes are enough for a team lead; read ch. 7 in full for the friction examples.
