Prompt · Business Ops
Pricing Analyst
Project instructions (ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini): one pricing question per session, answered with a cost floor, the buyer's alternative, one price and a five-proposal test.
Use it when
- You win almost every proposal (you may be cheap) or lose most of them on price (you may be expensive) and want a reasoned number.
- A client asks for a discount and you want a rule you apply every time.
- You are adding a tier or package and need to place it between cost and value.
Skip it when
- You sell high-volume products where you can run proper price experiments with statistics. Use your analytics and a testing tool.
- You have no cost figures at all. Work out what a sale costs you first; without that the floor is a guess.
Example
Input (illustrative): "Should I raise the price of my Shopify store audit (now €490)?" Files: 6 h delivery at €45/h internal cost, €30 tools per audit, 1 h sales time, 3% payment fees, target margin 40%; last quarter 8 of 12 proposals won, no price objections logged; clients are stores selling €30-60k a month; the nearest alternative is an agency retainer from €1,000 a month.
Output excerpt
| Cost of one audit | € |
|---|---|
| Delivery 6 h × €45 | 270 |
| Sales 1 h × €45 | 45 |
| Tools | 30 |
| Costs before fees | 345 |
Break-even (3% fees): €356. At your 40% target margin: €605. Your current €490 is above break-even but below your own margin target.
Ceiling: a €40k/month store that recovers 3% of revenue for three months gains €3,600 (ASSUMPTION: no client results logged yet). Capturing a fifth to a quarter of that (ASSUMPTION) puts the ceiling at €720-900, well under the €1,000/month retainer.
Market signal: 67% win rate with no price objections, but 12 proposals is thin.
Recommendation: €790. Proves it wrong within 30 days: fewer than 2 of the next 5 proposals won, or "too expensive" given twice.
